Do I need to be a business major to apply?
No. We’re proud to have a diverse set of majors on our team, ranging from business and liberal arts to engineering and natural sciences.
What type of prior experience do I need?
None. We’re looking for applicants who are willing to put in the time and effort to learn and develop themselves. In fact, a majority of our incoming class each year does not have previous finance experience.
How much time do I need to commit to Finance Team?
We expect our members to commit somewhere between 6-10 hours per week, depending on stock pitch schedules. While we understand that everyone has a busy schedule, Finance Team relies on the participation of its members to maintain standards and help our members get as much as they can out of Finance Team. At a minimum, we expect everyone to attend weekly meetings, write and respond to market watches, and stay active on our Slack channel.
How does pitch scheduling work?
You can sign up for a week that fits your schedule best. We try to avoid scheduling pitches during busy weeks for our members.
When are finance team meetings?
Thursday nights from 8-10pm. CBA 4.328.
What types of internships or jobs do members go into?
Our members have a diverse range of work experience, ranging from traditional finance paths such as banking and private equity to consulting, corporate finance, marketing, design, entertainment, and graduate school. For more information on which companies our members and alumni have worked at, take a look at our team bios or our Impact page.
When and how can I apply?
We accept applications in the beginning of the fall and spring semesters. Applications will be posted on this site and on texasabsa.org. We strongly encourage interested applicants to come out to info sessions and ABSA’s leadership info session to hear more about the team and meet some of our directors and members. Interview slots will be opened shortly after the application deadline.
How many people are accepted each semester?
We don’t have a predetermined number of applicants that we’d like to accept. We evaluate our applicant classes holistically and try to choose the best fits for our team. Historically, our incoming classes have been in the range of 5-10 applicants in the fall and a smaller number in the spring.
